Rachel Shelley, Laurel Holloman and Jennifer Beals in Paintings inspired by ‘The L Word’

Rachel Shelley, Laurel Holloman and Jennifer Beals in paintings by Juliette Gorges Coppens inspired by The L Word.

I really like Juliette Gorges Coppens’ work and find it rare and interesting that she has painted both Heletina and Tibette – this might be because she chose the scenes for their artistic value, or she first preferred one couple and then switched to the other one, or she is most of all a fan of Laurel Holloman, or ________insert anything remotely on subject here_________, but it most likely is I’d like to interpret it as a call for all admirers of beautiful, talented and inspiring women to unite! :)

Everything is subject to our own preconceived notions interpretation if we don’t have a lot of background information, isn’t it?*

* And simply asking the artist about her motivation would have totally destroyed my little chain of reasoning here, so that’s absolutely positively not an option…

1. UPDATE: Exemplary works by the beautiful, talented and inspiring Rachel Shelley, Laurel Holloman and Jennifer Beals can be found here, here and here, respectively.

2. UPDATE: Juliette has painted Dylena as well by now:

Time to add Alexandra Hedison’s photography website to the links on this page that take you to exemplary works by beautiful, talented and inspiring women.

3. UPDATE: The lovely people from The L Word Art have actually asked Juliette Gorges Coppens about her motivation to paint the characters from The L Word and other topics in a recent interview and also included a video taken during her exhibition at the Centre LGBT in Paris in their article here.

4. UPDATE: Juliette has been featured in Curve Magazine and published a catalog titled “Portraits” by now.
